Rs 17.1 Million Drug Bust at SSR Airport, 82-Yr-Old Kenyan Arrested

On Monday, 10th February, a significant drug seizure took place at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, sending shockwaves through the region. Authorities uncovered a staggering 1.142 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of Rs 17.1 million, hidden within the luggage of an elderly passenger.
The operation was executed by customs officials from the Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS), who had been closely monitoring passenger profiles for signs of suspicious activity.
Their vigilance paid off when they identified an 82-year-old Kenyan man emerging from customs through the green channel.
His luggage was scanned, leading to further inspection.

Upon closer examination, inspectors found two black bags that instantly raised their suspicions.
A secondary scan revealed irregularities within these bags. When opened, investigators found four rectangular packages.
A partial incision of these packages unveiled a powdery substance, suspected to be an illicit drug.
Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cocaine.
The diligent sniffer dog, K9 Honey, on site, also reacted positively to the suspicious material.
The packages were weighed, showing a gross weight of 1.142 kilograms, before being sealed for the ongoing investigation.
On the very same day, the Anti-Drug Smuggling Unit (ADSU) initiated a controlled delivery operation.
Authorities remain committed to uncovering further details as the investigation unfolds.
