Weather Warning: Showers & Thunderstorms Loom Over Mauritius

A gentle but warm airflow has enveloped our area, bringing with it a promise of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. While the early hours are expected to be clear and sunny, the Central Plateau, Eastern and Northern areas are forecast to develop ominous cloud formations by mid-day, with the possibility of moderate showers accompanied by isolated thunderstorms.
As the day wears on, the coastline will remain shrouded in partly cloudy conditions, according to meteorological sources.
However, as night falls, the skies are expected to gradually clear.
Temperature Watch
Maximum temperatures will range from 28°C to 31°C in the Central Plateau and a scorching 33°C to 35°C by the coast.
Overnight lows will dip to between 20°C and 22°C in the mountainous regions, while coastal areas can expect temperatures to remain relatively mild between 24°C and 27°C.
Wind Advisory
A gentle and variable breeze is forecast for this morning, which will pick up from the southern sector at approximately 15 km/h in the afternoon.
Marine Warning
The sea is expected to be choppy beyond the reefs, with waves reaching a staggering 2.5 meters from the southeast, gradually improving throughout the day.
As a result, high-sea excursions are strongly not advised.
Safety Precautions
In the event of thunderstorms:
- Seek shelter to remain safe and sound
- Avoid heading out to open plains, embarking on treks or venturing into the sea
- Shed no illusions – do not seek shelter under trees, as this poses a significant risk
