Mauritius Police Bust Traffickers, Seize Rs 3.1m in Cannabis

In a crackdown on narcotics trafficking, customs officers from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) made a record haul of cannabis and hashish worth a staggering Rs3.1 million.
Five hundred grams of cannabis and an identical amount of hashish were seized on 8 February from a courier service by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) during a targeted operation based on risk factors.
The daring operation was carried out with pinpoint accuracy, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.
The officers from the CANS were conducting an inspection of a suspected shipment when they stumbled upon two boxes filled with seemingly innocuous items – a hat, food products, and two puzzle boxes.
However, a closer examination of the puzzle boxes raised the officers’ suspicions, prompting an exhaustive search of the boxes.
To the horror of the officers, they discovered hidden compartments containing packets of cannabis, hashish, and cigarettes.
The seized evidence was handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) for further investigation.
This massive seizure is believed to be a significant blow to the lucrative narcotics trade in Mauritius.
