With further development on Wednesday, 12th February, the court granted conditional freedom to Rakesh Gooljaury, amidst allegations of fraud. The decision followed the Financial Crimes Commission’s (FCC) surprising choice not to contest the businessman’s motion for release.

To secure his freedom, Gooljaury will need to provide two bail payments of Rs 500,000 each and sign a debt acknowledgment amounting to Rs 10 million.

In a move aimed at safeguarding the ongoing investigation, he has been ordered to refrain from any contact with key individuals involved in the case, including his own brother.

Moreover, Gooljaury must remain accessible to FCC investigators as they continue their probing into the scandal surrounding the infamous “Toxic Loans” linked to the former Mauritius Post and Cooperative Bank (MPCB), which have resulted in staggering financial implications exceeding Rs 1 billion.

Additionally, he is obliged to report to the police three times a week, ensuring his compliance during this precarious chapter in his life.
