Mass Surveillance Controversy: Bhadain Seeks Clarification from Pravind Jugnauth

Roshi Bhadain, the leader of the Reform Party, has voiced his concerns regarding a shocking allegation that a mass surveillance system was established by the previous government at the staggering cost of Rs 5 billion. In a poignant video shared on his Facebook page, Bhadain reacted to recent statements made by Navin Ramgoolam in Parliament, as well as a communiqué issued by the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM). Both have called for a formal inquiry into this alarming situation.
However, Bhadain insisted that before Pravind Jugnauth, the former Prime Minister and current leader of the MSM, calls for an investigation, he first owes a clear explanation of his initial actions.
“It is crucial for the Mauritian public, especially our youth, investors, and foreign workers, to know whether they have been under surveillance,” Bhadain stated earnestly.
He went on to question Jugnauth’s priorities during the Covid crisis, emphasising:
“If these claims are accurate, then Jugnauth must clarify why he chose not to alleviate the burden on a population struggling to make ends meet, or why he did not lower fuel prices, instead opting to squander Rs 5 billion of taxpayers’ money.”
Bhadain further underscored the gravity of the allegations, asserting:
“If these accusations are unfounded, Navin Ramgoolam must be held accountable.
Conversely, should they prove to be true, then Pravind Jugnauth has much to answer for, potentially facing justice for infringing upon the rights of citizens.”
The call for transparency and accountability in light of such serious allegations reflects the growing unease within the nation, as Mauritians seek to understand the implications of such actions on their democratic rights.
