On the morning of Friday, 7th February 2025, the Prime Minister, Dr Navin Ramgoolam, signed official documents that unveiled the much-anticipated list of this year’s laureates. In a heartfelt message, he celebrated their remarkable achievements, emphasising that their success is testament to their unwavering sacrifices.

With a tone heavy with emotion, the Prime Minister made a passionate appeal to these accomplished individuals: they must return to their homeland once their studies are complete.

Acknowledging the challenges that have driven some away from Mauritius, he firmly asserted that their rightful place is within the country.

He instilled hope by asserting that meritocracy will ultimately prevail.

Dr Ramgoolam reminded them that the scholarships they received were made possible by Mauritius, and in return, they hold a responsibility to contribute to their nation’s future.

“You may choose to work abroad for a time—I have done so myself,” he said, his voice rich with personal experience.

“But you must eventually find your way back home.”

Addressing those who faced disappointment or were unable to secure their laureate status, the Prime Minister offered words of encouragement:

“In life, what matters is not the fall, but the strength to rise again.”
