The axe has fallen on Charles Cartier, the embattled CEO of Air Mauritius. The decision, announced on the evening of Thursday, 6th February, has sent shockwaves through the aviation industry. The Air Mauritius Limited board of directors has chosen not to renew Cartier’s mandate, effectively ending his tenure as the chief executive of the national carrier.

The dramatic turn of events was sealed during the company’s annual general meeting, where shareholders gave their backing to the board’s decision.

As a result, Cartier is no longer at the helm of the airline, leaving a power vacuum that needs to be filled.

In a bid to maintain stability and continuity, the board has established a ‘Managing Committee with executive powers’, comprising Kishore Beegoo, the chairman of the board, Suresh Seeballuck, and Dass Thomas.

This high-powered committee has been given the authority to take key decisions, including appointing interim leaders, as and when required.

As the search for a new CEO begins, the airline’s fate hangs in the balance.

The ‘Managing Committee’ will be responsible for steering the company through these uncertain times, until a permanent successor is found to take the reins.

The question on everyone’s lips is: what’s next for Air Mauritius, and who will be the one to lead the national carrier to calmer skies?
