Perilous Situation for 15 Mauritians Facing Deportation Threat in America

As the first priority of his presidency, Donald Trump has committed to controlling immigration flows into the United States. While his policies affect many, a group of around fifteen Mauritians now finds themselves at risk of deportation, caught up in the harsh realities of the immigration system.
According to the U.S. Customs and Immigration Service, more than 1.4 million migrants are currently facing removal.
Among these, over 41,000 are Africans, including the vulnerable fifteen from Mauritius.
They are part of a broader group of individuals from 54 African nations listed for deportation back to their home countries.
The alarming news has circulated through various African news platforms, which have detailed the distribution of migrants facing these drastic measures.
At the forefront of this group are Somalians, with a staggering 4,090 individuals ordered to leave the United States.
This influx is stemming from a country long ravaged by civil war, where countless citizens have fled to seek a better future.
The United States, a land of perceived opportunity, has drawn many, including Somalis, who now find themselves in precarious positions.
Trump had previously declared his intention to initiate “the largest deportation programme in American history,” a promise that is now becoming a painful reality.
Although the deportations impact migrants from nearly every corner of the globe — including Europe and nations as vast as China, India, and Australia — the situation remains particularly dire for those from Africa.
In response to this distressing situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mauritius has acknowledged the matter and assured that they are working diligently to address it.
