Franco Quirin, From Party Lines to Independent Voice in Parliament

The former deputy of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM), Franco Quirin, has confirmed that he will take his place as an independent Member of Parliament starting this Tuesday, 4 February, when parliamentary sessions resume. He will be seated in the fourth row, a space designated for this purpose.
When contacted by phone, Quirin, who represents Constituency No. 20 (Beau-Bassin/Petite-Rivière), declined to provide an audio recording for Radio Plus.
He stressed that this decision was not solely his own.
A conversation between Quirin and Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, the Speaker of the National Assembly, led to his new seating arrangement.
In related developments, Rajesh Bhagwan, the Environment Minister and general secretary of the MMM, has submitted an official letter to the Speaker, confirming that Quirin is no longer a member of the MMM.
Thus, the former member of the ‘Mauve’ party will now sit apart from the other two opposition members to prevent any confusion.
