The Mallet Bridge in Poudre-d’Or has suffered a partial collapse, prompting swift action from local authorities to safeguard the community. On February 1st at 1:15 PM, a police sergeant was dispatched to the scene to assess the damage. Upon arrival, he found that this sturdy rock structure had experienced a significant sagging, with a two-metre-long crack appearing on the road surface near the guardrail.

Local officials were quickly alerted, including Assistant Police Commissioner Ramkeelawon, Superintendent Poinoosawmy, and other key officers.

In a bid to prevent accidents, metal barriers and warning tape were erected at the site, and a police officer was assigned to monitor the area.

By 2 PM that same day, an inspector along with a sergeant visited the bridge to investigate the situation further.

They observed the partial collapse on the left side of the bridge, particularly in the direction of Rivière-du-Rempart, alongside the worrying cracks in the roadway.

An employee from the Road Development Authority and a technician, who were already present, recommended additional metal barriers and more warning tape to better protect motorists.

They also confirmed plans to erect warning signs for drivers approaching the hazardous area.

As the situation unfolds, police are remaining vigilant.

In a proactive move, Member of Parliament Nitish Beejan informed the police and the RDA on the previous day that he had overseen the installation of barricades and signs at the collapse site.

A site visit has been scheduled, which will include an inspection of the Anse-la-Raie Bridge, to evaluate whether repairs or reinforcements are necessary.

MP Beejan, along with Ram Etwareea and other relevant authorities are expected to be present to monitor developments closely.
