In an announcement at the government’s recent programme address, the new Mobile ID has been touted as a significant evolution of its predecessor. This makes the Mobile ID an indispensable tool for personal and administrative needs. Furthermore, its authenticity can be verified using the M-Verifier app, with all data securely housed within the Central Population Database, under the government’s oversight.

Notably, officials have stressed that the process will remain simple—no cumbersome ‘middleware’ needed, nor will ‘selfies’ be required.

The primary aim of the Mobile ID is to streamline interactions with governmental agencies, banks, and businesses.

It will also facilitate the online signing of documents—an essential function in today’s fast-paced digital world.

Encouragingly, private sector companies are being urged to adopt the Mobile ID for their transactions and identity verification processes.

As for its current reach, around 3,600 citizens have already embraced this technology.

However, the government has set its sights on expanding this figure to 300,000 users within six months, soaring to 800,000 by the end of the year.
