In a shocking turn of events, Rizwan Khodabaccus has become the latest victim of a brutal kidnapping in Grand-Baie. His captors demanded a staggering ransom of Rs 25 million, claiming he possessed significant offshore funds.
The nightmare began late Thursday night, 30 January, as the 31-year-old left a local restaurant.
In a terrifying act of violence, he was forcibly bundled into a van by his assailants.
His ordeal came to an end when he was discovered early Saturday morning – 1 February, in Terre-Rouge, near the Bois-Marchand footbridge.
He was rushed to the Northern Hospital for urgent medical care.
Rizwan, who lives in Plaine-Verte, was subjected to severe mistreatment during his captivity.
Reports suggested he was beaten, particularly on his shins, and his head was shaved.
The van used in the kidnapping was found abandoned the following afternoon in Mon Loisir, located in the Rivière-du-Rempart area.
The investigation, led by the CID of Grand-Baie under the watchful eye of Superintendent Buchoo and Inspector Mootoo, is currently underway.
Detectives are working tirelessly to trace the perpetrators and piece together the circumstances surrounding this distressing crime.
L’Express sources indicated that the kidnappers’ leader is the son of a notorious recidivist known as “lapin,” who has recently retired from his life of crime.
Thanks to the diligent efforts of a police officer and a close friend of Rizwan, the authorities were able to locate him.
Realising they were being pursued, the kidnappers abandoned Rizwan in Verdun, where the Terre-Rouge patrol promptly rescued him.
This operation, executed by the SP Seebaruth alongside a former MCIT officer, played a crucial role in securing his release.
The community is left shaken, and a sense of urgency lingers as the investigation unfolds.
This harrowing incident has brought to light the shocking realities of extortion and violence that can strike at any moment.
