Mauritius Shines at Bocuse d’Or, A Culinary Journey Among Giants
In a stunning showcase of culinary talent, Mauritius has stepped onto the world stage at the Bocuse d’Or, one of the most prestigious cooking competitions. This remarkable event unfolded at Sirha in Lyon, France, where three talented Mauritian chefs, led by Emmanuel Fortuno, put in an impressive five hours and thirty minutes of intense kitchen work.
Despite the fierce competition, Mauritius secured a commendable 19th place out of 24 countries, outperforming notable culinary powers such as New Zealand, Vietnam, Colombia, China, and Morocco.
The dedication and skills of Emmanuel, his assistant Aninia Fortuno, and their coach Florian Rocchietta were palpable throughout the event.
Chef Nizam Peeroo, the president of the Bocuse d’Or Mauritius committee, praised the team’s performance, highlighting their mental and physical preparation, as well as their meticulous attention to detail.
“Competing with the world’s finest chefs can only be beneficial for this young Bocuse d’Or team from Mauritius,” he said, pride radiating from his words.
The following day, Chef Emmanuel Fortuno reflected on the experience, stating:
“Participating in this world championship at Sirha was a fantastic experience.
We’re content with our ranking. There’s room for improvement, but overall, it’s a significant achievement for us.”
The highlight for Emmanuel was the opportunity to interact with some of the culinary industry’s biggest names.
“Meeting these esteemed chefs is a rare opportunity,” he enthused. “There was also wonderful support from the audience.

The Bocuse d’Or Mauritius committee also expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance at this illustrious competition.
