Rs 1.3 Million Worth of Cannabis Plants Seized in Île d’Ambre

In a significant operation conducted on Tuesday, January 28, law enforcement agencies seized 13 cannabis plants with an estimated value of Rs 1.3 million on the island of Île d’Ambre, in the village of Poudre-d’Or. The successful raid was the result of a collaborative effort between the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), the Maritime Intelligence Unit, the National Coast Guard, and the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU), who acted on tip-offs received regarding the illicit crop.
According to investigators, it appeared that a larger-scale cannabis cultivation operation had been underway on Île d’Ambre.
This suspicion emerged from reports that a substantial quantity of the drug was destroyed in a recent fire on the island.
The incident has prompted the launch of a full-scale investigation to uncover the extent of the illicit activities and to identify those responsible.
The seizure of these cannabis plants marked a notable success in the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and cultivation in Mauritius.
