Tropical Disturbance Threatens the Mascarenes Islands

The Vacoas Meteorological Station is closely monitoring a tropical disturbance located southeast of Diego Garcia, to the northeast of the Mascarenes Islands. Currently situated in a favorable environment for development, this system is expected to intensify and could potentially be named in the coming days.
According to Yashvir Ramlukhon, a forecaster at the Vacoas station, the weather will begin to be influenced by this disturbance by Thursday, January 30.
He explained, “There is currently an active intertropical convergence zone.
This is where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, creating the potential for cyclonic activity.
At this time, the conditions are very conducive for the formation and strengthening of a cyclone.”
Ramlukhon continued, “The disturbance is projected to move closer to the Mascarenes Islands as early as next week.
Rainfall is anticipated starting Wednesday and continuing into Thursday. There’s a possibility that the system could receive a name next week.”
The Vacoas Meteorological Station is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as it develops.
Residents of the Mascarenes are advised to stay informed and prepare for potential weather changes in the coming days.
