MIC’s Rs 45 Million Alleged Fraud, 1 More Arrested

Jitendra Bissessur, the former CEO of the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC), was arrested on Wednesday morning, January 22, following an interrogation by the Anti-Money Laundering Unit (AMLU) of the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID). He is set to face a provisional charge of “Conspiracy to Defraud” at the Port-Louis court later in the day.
Bissessur’s interrogation is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct involving a transaction of Rs 45 million linked to Menlo Park Ltd.
This transaction is believed to have caused significant damage to the MIC.
In response to the charges, Jitendra Bissessur has engaged the legal services of attorney Me Shyam Servansingh.
This arrest marked the second in connection with this case, following the earlier detention of Harvesh Seegoolam, the former governor of the Bank of Mauritius.
