The Port-Louis Maritime Employees Association (PLMEA) is demanding the appointment of a new director general to head the Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd (CHCL). At a press conference on Monday, January 20, negotiator Gérard Bertrand expressed concerns about the overall dissatisfaction among employees. This discontent stems from recent decisions made by current director general, Gassen Dorsamy, since he took office.

According to Bertrand, these decisions are not in the best interest of the employees.

When contacted for a response by RadioPlus, director general Gassen Dorsamy was candid in his remarks.

He emphasized that “the indiscipline prevailing at the port must come to an end.” Dorsamy asserted that his decisions are solely aimed at “reestablishing order” within the organization.

The PLMEA’s call for new leadership comes amid growing tensions between employees and the current management.

The association’s concerns highlighted the need for a director general who can effectively address the needs and grievances of the workforce.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the CHCL will heed the PLMEA’s demand for a change in leadership.

In a clear and direct statement, Dorsamy made it evident that he is committed to implementing measures to restore discipline and order within the port.

However, the PLMEA’s concerns suggested that his approach may not be aligned with the interests of the employees.

The standoff between the two parties has brought attention to the inner workings of the CHCL and the need for effective management that prioritizes the well-being of its workforce.

As the debate surrounding the leadership of the CHCL continues, one thing is clear: the employees are seeking a change in direction, and it is up to the organization’s stakeholders to decide whether Dorsamy’s approach is the right one for the company’s future.
