Administrative Error Leads to Mistaken Release of Inmate

An administrative mix-up resulted in the erroneous release of an inmate on January 17. Although the individual’s bail had been paid by a relative, he should have remained in custody at Beau-Bassin prison due to another ongoing case against him.
Once the mistake was identified, law enforcement quickly sprang into action.
Investigators from the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU), supported by several officers, launched an intensive search in the surrounding area, particularly near the inmate’s home in Roche-Bois.
The situation was resolved around 6 PM when the inmate’s father reached out to the authorities to facilitate his son’s return.
Just 15 minutes later, the inmate voluntarily presented himself at the Abercrombie police station, accompanied by a relative and his lawyer.
Officers from the Northern Division then took custody of him before escorting him back to Beau-Bassin prison.
