In a significant drug bust on Thursday, January 16, 2025, the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) uncovered nearly 25 kilograms of cannabis, valued at approximately Rs 37 million, in a house located in Ste-Croix. The operation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old male, identified as Ziggy Jeremy Pericher, while his accomplices remain unaccounted for.

The investigation began when police received credible information suggesting that a large quantity of cannabis was hidden under the roof of a residence on Isidore Bouquet Avenue.

Acting on this tip, an ADSU team from Port-Louis conducted a thorough search of the property, where they confirmed their suspicions.

During the search, which was carried out in the presence of Pericher, investigators found the drugs concealed in two suitcases within a storage room adjacent to the kitchen.

Upon inspecting the suitcases, officers discovered a total of 46 packages containing carefully wrapped cannabis.

Following the seizure, Pericher was arrested and spent the night in custody.

He was arraigned in Port-Louis court the following day, facing provisional charges of drug dealing, specifically possession of cannabis with intent to distribute, along with trafficking allegations.

The ADSU are suspecting that the cannabis smuggled into Mauritius has links to a trafficking network operating between La Réunion and Mauritius.

Authorities are intensifying their efforts to interrogate Pericher to lead them to his accomplices and ultimately dismantle the trafficking operation.
