Public Services: Gradual Implementation of Water Distribution Restrictions

In response to the ongoing dry period, progressive restrictions on water distribution will be introduced in the coming days, according to Patrick Assirvaden, the Minister of Public Services. He made this announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, January 14.
Addressing the media, Assirvaden revealed that a plan is currently being developed to reassess the management of water distribution in Mauritius.
He urged citizens to be prepared to make sacrifices in light of the situation.
The minister highlighted the alarming fact that water reservoir levels have dropped to 44%, a significant decrease compared to 74% at the same time last year.
To assist residents served by the Central Water Authority (CWA), water tankers will be deployed to support those affected by the restrictions.
Assirvaden indicated that without these measures, Mauritius could face a critical water shortage by April.
The Water Monitoring Committee is already scheduled to finalize the details of the forthcoming measures.
