The atmosphere at the port has become increasingly strained following a disagreement between the representative of the Port-Louis Maritime Employees Association (PLMEA) and the newly appointed Managing Director of Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd (CHCL), Gassen Dorsamy.

The PLMEA is expressing concerns over what it perceives as a lack of consideration from CHCL management.

To address these issues, both parties have been summoned to a meeting at the Ministry of Labor scheduled for January 17.

Gérard Bertrand, a negotiator for the PLMEA, has publicly criticized Dorsamy for allegedly making unilateral decisions that disregard the collective agreement and do not involve consultation with the union.

He argued that this approach is undermining the collaborative relationship that should exist between management and employees.

In response to these allegations, Gassen Dorsamy has stated that he is perplexed by Bertrand’s claims.

He maintained that he regularly communicates with both the union and employees to foster a cooperative working environment.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on the upcoming meeting at the Ministry of Labor, which aims to resolve the ongoing tensions and restore harmony within the port sector.
