MIC Embezzlement Allegations: Former BOM 1st Deputy Governor Interrogated

On Thursday, January 9th, Madayah Kona Yerukunundo, the former First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mauritius and a past board member of the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC), was questioned by the Anti-Money Laundering Unit of the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID). After providing his account of the events, he was permitted to return home.

This inquiry is part of a broader investigation into the funds disbursed by the Mauritius Investment Corporation to several companies in response to the economic challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police are investigating allegations of financial misconduct concerning the allocation of these funds to certain private enterprises.

Additionally, Harvesh Seegolam, the former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, has also been interrogated in connection with this case and was reportedly placed under arrest.

Furthermore, an ‘arrest upon departure’ order has been issued against former Minister of Finance Renganaden Padayachy, indicating the seriousness of the allegations being investigated.
