Water Reservoir Levels Alarmingly Low, Just 45.5% Capacity

An urgent warning has been issued regarding the state of water reservoirs on the island, as current figures reveal a significant decline in fill levels. As of Monday, January 6, the overall capacity of the seven main reservoirs stands at only 45.5%, a stark contrast to the 73.2% recorded during the same period in 2024.
These concerning statistics have been released by the Water Resources Unit of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities.
The La Nicolière reservoir currently holds just 39.9% of its capacity, while Mare-aux-Vacoas is at 51.0%.
The Piton du Milieu reservoir shows a fill level of 47.2%.
The situation is even graver at La Ferme, which is only 28.1% full.
Midlands Dam holds 44.1%, and Bagatelle Dam shows a slightly better level at 46.3%.
Mare Longue, the largest among them, is at 62.4%.
With the dry season exacerbating the situation, authorities strongly advise the public to use water wisely to conserve this precious resource.
The current levels of water supply are a cause for alarm, and increased awareness and responsible usage are essential to navigate through this challenging period.
