Minister’s Surprise Visit to Rose-Hill Social Security Office

On Monday morning, January 6, Ashok Subron, the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity, made an unexpected visit to the Social Security office in Rose-Hill. During his visit, he assessed the working conditions and addressed the challenges faced by the employees in the office.
Minister Subron engaged with the staff, who highlighted several pressing issues, including a shortage of personnel, insufficient ongoing training, and a lack of office supplies.
The minister also listened to the concerns of the public waiting in line for services.
Many expressed frustration over lengthy waiting times and the lack of information regarding their applications.
Accompanied by Junior Minister Kugan Parapen, Subron aimed to evaluate the operations of various departments within the office.
His observations included a thorough review of the Public Relations Office, the department responsible for processing pension and social allowance applications, as well as the storage area for beneficiary files.
Additionally, he visited the medical home visit department and the Medical Appeal Tribunal, hearing appeals for rejected applications.
Dr. Shiv Seegobin and Dr. Amrith Jeetun, the Director and Deputy Director of the Medical Unit at the Ministry of Social Security, provided insights into the operations of the Medical Board and the Medical Appeal Tribunal, including information on the volume of cases being handled.
It is noteworthy that the budget allocated for the Ministry of Social Security for the year 2024 amounts to Rs 67.3 billion.
