Mauritius Stock Exchange Ends 2024 with Gains

The total return index, SEMTRI, rose by 0.76% during the week, finishing the trading session on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 10,839.55 points. Similarly, the SEMDEX index also saw an increase of 0.76%, closing the week at 2,403.13 points. The SEM-10 index, representing the stocks of large-cap companies, ended its session at 448.63 points.

As of the close of the market on December 31, the market capitalization of the Official Market stood at Rs 382.5 billion.

Transaction Volume

Total transactions over the last week of 2024: Rs 56.3 million

Largest Trades:

  • MCB Group Limited: Rs 29.2 million
  • Beachcomber Hospitality Investments Ltd – Class B Preferred Shares: Rs 6.7 million
  • Promotion and Development Ltd: Rs 5 million
  • MUS Ltd: Rs 2 million
  • ENL Limited: Rs 1.8 million

Out of the 64 listed stocks, 17 finished the week with gains, 41 remained stable, while six saw declines.

The highest performers included CIM Financial Services Ltd, which increased by 9.23%, followed by MCB Group Limited (Preferred Shares) with a rise of 7.35%, Innodis Ltd at 2.86%, United Docks Ltd at 2.65%, and IBL Ltd with a gain of 2.23%.

Conversely, the stocks that experienced the most significant losses were Riveo Limited, down by 0.81%, National Investment Trust Ltd with a decrease of 0.47%, P.O.L.I.C.Y Ltd at -0.44%, Alteo Limited down by 0.38%, and ENL Limited which fell by 0.21%.

A performance report for the ten best-performing companies, in terms of annualized total return since their Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), showed returns ranging from 13.05% to 20.11%.

These companies represent various sectors, as detailed in the accompanying table.

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), both the DEMEX and DEMTRI indices concluded the trading session on Tuesday at 236.06 points and 391.39 points, respectively, with a total market capitalization of Rs 46.1 billion.

Transactions in this market accounted for Rs 5.6 million during the week.

The top-performing companies in terms of annualized total return since their IPOs included The Union Sugar Estates Co. Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd, Phoenix Investment Company Ltd, Associated Commercial Ltd, United Bus Service Ltd, Swan Life Ltd, ABC Motors Company Ltd, Compagnie Immobilière Ltée, Excelsior United Development Companies Ltd, and Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée.

The returns for these companies ranged from 12.48% to 24.28%.

On the international front, the Dow Jones and Nasdaq experienced declines of 0.78% and 1.41% respectively over the week. In Europe, however, the DAX, FTSE-100, and CAC-40 indices recorded gains of 0.30%, 0.23%, and 0.57% during the same period.
