Former BoM Governor Detained at Plaisance Airport

On Friday, January 3, former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius (BoM), Harvesh Seegolam, was detained upon his arrival at Plaisance Airport. He is currently under investigation for conspiracy to defraud in connection with an alleged embezzlement case involving the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC).
The investigation is focusing on the disbursement of 45 million Mauritian rupees, which took place on October 28 of the previous year.
This substantial amount was reportedly allocated to a company classified as a level 5 risk, indicating a very high level of financial risk.
Authorities suggested that this inquiry could potentially implicate other former high-ranking officials, raising concerns about broader corruption within the organization.
The case has attracted significant public attention as it unfolds, highlighting issues of financial governance and accountability in Mauritius.
