Police Service to the Community: A Commitment Beyond Enforcement

On December 19, 2023, Chief Inspector Nursimulu and his team from the Rivière-des-Anguilles Police participated in a community-sharing event at the Sacred Heart Parish. In a heartwarming display of generosity, police officers from various stations across the island collaborated to organize a special Christmas celebration for children from low-income backgrounds.

For instance, officers from Cent Gaulettes Police Station will distribute gifts and host a festive lunch for children on Christmas Day, continuing a tradition that has been upheld for several years.

The event on December 19 saw approximately a hundred children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the parish receiving toys, gifts, and school supplies.

Additionally, the police conducted educational sessions addressing critical topics such as the importance of education, social behavior, delinquency prevention, drug and alcohol abuse, responsible use of social media, police-community relations, family dynamics, and road safety.

These benevolent acts exemplify the police’s commitment not only as protectors of public order but also as partners in community welfare, eager to make a positive difference in the lives of local citizens.

Public Safety Measures in Place for the Festive Season

As is customary in the lead-up to the holiday season, the police force has implemented a series of measures to ensure public safety.

December marks an uptick in commercial activities, leading to increased financial transactions.

The police remain vigilant in thwarting the plans of potential criminals.

A two-phase deployment strategy is in effect, commencing on December 15 and running until January 6, featuring a heightened police presence at shopping centers, financial institutions such as banks and currency exchange offices, and gas stations. Officers from administrative roles and newly confirmed recruits are assisting on the ground.

Furthermore, the police remind business owners, including shop and gas station proprietors, that they can request a complimentary escort service for their bank deposits.

To arrange this service, they simply need to contact their local police station. Increased patrols and heightened vigilance will be especially prominent during business closing hours.

The Crime Prevention Unit and Neighborhood Officers across the island have also engaged vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, by educating them on best practices to avoid becoming targets for thieves.

The police urge the public to refrain from withdrawing cash during late hours or in secluded areas.

Road safety is also a focus during this critical time, with checkpoints established on strategic roadways and a zero-tolerance policy enforced against traffic law violations.

Maritime patrols are additionally being conducted to ensure safety on the water and at beaches.
