Tragedy Strikes Mauritian Family, Young Man Goes Missing at Sea

The family of a young man from Mauritius is in mourning after he went missing during a tragic incident at sea. Dhanish Pydatally, a 23-year-old from Camp-de-Masque-Pavé, left the island on December 5 for a six-month job on the cruise ship ‘Vision of the Seas’, operated by Royal Caribbean. Eager to carve out his own path in life, Dhanish dreamt of earning his independence while working aboard the vessel.
However, on December 17, a catastrophic event occurred.
Dhanish reportedly fell overboard in the southern Caribbean Sea as the ship made its way to Baltimore.
Despite extensive search efforts, by December 20, no trace of the young Mauritian had been found.
The distressing news has plunged his family into deep sorrow.
His father, Soogrim Pydatally, expressed the family’s desperate need for answers.
“I am keeping my phone close by, waiting for a call, a response on what exactly happened,” he said tearfully.
Since the announcement of this tragedy, Dhanish’s family has been living in a state of anguish and uncertainty.
Soogrim, 58, lamented, “My son left with the hope of progressing in life. He had aspirations and was full of ambition.”
This was not Dhanish’s first job at sea; he had previously completed two contracts, using his earnings to build a two-story house.
This latest contract was meant to help him finish his home and pursue other dreams.
On December 5, Soogrim and other family members accompanied Dhanish to the airport.
“He was smiling and joyful that day. He first flew to France before heading to the United States to join the ship’s crew as a bar waiter,” the heartbroken father recalled.
Dhanish had maintained regular communication with his parents. “He boarded the ship on December 7, and we spoke often.
Everything seemed fine according to him,” Soogrim noted.
Their last conversation occurred at the beginning of the week when Dhanish appeared happy.
However, on Tuesday, December 17, Soogrim attempted to reach him but was unable to get through—an unusual occurrence, as Dhanish was consistent in answering calls.
Concerned for his son, the family was later informed that Dhanish had fallen into the water.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Soogrim said, “This news shook our entire family. We want to understand exactly what happened. We are hearing conflicting versions of events.
According to Royal Caribbean’s website, Dhanish was performing maintenance work when he fell, which does not align with his duties as a bar waiter. How is this possible? We demand answers.”
As the search continues, the Pydatally family remains hopeful for closure and clarity in the face of this devastating situation.
