Delays Continue for Rivière-des-Anguilles Dam Construction

The long-awaited construction of the Rivière-des-Anguilles Dam has yet to commence, as confirmed by Minister of Energy Patrick Assirvaden in response to growing concerns from Eshan Juman. The dam is a crucial infrastructure project designed to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the region until 2050.
The initiative will involve the integrated development of various components, including a dam, a water treatment facility, and a small hydroelectric power station.
However, as of now, no funds have been disbursed for this important construction project.
Currently, the tender documents are being finalized and will soon be reviewed by the Central Procurement Board before being issued.
The process of selecting contractors is expected to take up to six months, followed by an anticipated construction timeline of 40 months.
Minister Assirvaden noted that this timeline suggests the project may not be completed until nearly the end of the current government’s term.
The prolonged delays in the project’s initiation have raised concerns regarding the timely enhancement of water resources and infrastructure essential for the community.
