Indian Tourist Dies in Quad Bike Accident in Chamouny

On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 11, 2024, a tragic quad bike accident occurred in Chamouny, leading to the death of 35-year-old Indian tourist Vinay Chandran Nambiar. Nambiar, who hailed from Kerala, was enjoying a holiday in Mauritius with a friend, and the incident took place just a day before their scheduled return to India.
According to reports, Nambiar and his friend had been exploring a recreational park when the accident happened.
While seated on the back of the quad bike, Nambiar experienced a fatal fall that would ultimately end his life.
Eyewitnesses say that the friend, who was operating the quad, lost control of the vehicle while navigating through a hole in the ground.
This loss of control resulted in the quad tipping over and both men being violently thrown to the ground.
Local authorities were notified of the severe accident at approximately 3 PM, prompting a response from the Chemin-Grenier police.
Emergency medical personnel quickly arrived on the scene, where they confirmed Nambiar’s death.
His friend, who suffered injuries and was reportedly in shock, was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
Following his examination, the driver was taken into custody. During questioning by Police Superintendent Omrawoo, he explained, “I lost control of the vehicle and drove into a hole.”
The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
An autopsy conducted later that evening revealed that Nambiar died from a severe liver laceration resulting from the accident.
As for the friend, he was brought before the Souillac Court on Thursday, December 12, the same day the pair was supposed to return to India.
He faced preliminary charges of involuntary manslaughter but was released after posting bail.
Efforts are currently underway to repatriate Nambiar’s body to India, as the tragic incident has cast a shadow over what was intended to be a joyful vacation experience.
