On December 9, 2024, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger are required to appear before the Supreme Court in connection with two electoral petitions that contest the results of the elections held in constituencies No. 11 (Vieux-Grand-Port/Rose-Belle) and No. 15 (La Caverne/Phœnix).

The court proceedings will take place under the oversight of Chief Justice Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul.

These petitions arise from the legislative elections that were conducted on November 10, 2024.

The first petition has been filed by Vir Abhi Manuyu Trilochun, brother of lawyer Kailash Trilochun and a member of the Reform Party.

As a voter in constituency No. 15, Trilochun is contesting the election results concerning the three candidates from the Alliance of Change: Patrick Assirvaden, Khushal Lobine, and Mohammad Fawzi Allymun.

The second petition comes from Balram Rugjee, a defeated candidate from the Reform Party, who is challenging the results in constituency No. 11, where candidates from the Alliance of Change—Anishta Babooram, Manoj Seeburn, and Ashley Ramdass—were elected.

In both petitions, the defendants include the Electoral Commissioner Irfan Rahman, the Electoral Supervisory Commission, Returning Officer Damodarsingh Bissessur, as well as several other individuals and organizations:

Former Mauritius Telecom CEO Sherry Singh, Le Défi Media Ltd., and individuals Nawaz Noorbux, Jean-Luc Emile, Prem Sewpaul, Alkhiz Ramdin, Murvind Beetun, along with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

Both petitioners have referenced the leakage of recordings related to “Missier Moustass” in their claims, which has added another layer to the controversy surrounding the election results.
