Animal rights advocates in the Moka region are raising the alarm over the alarming disappearance of stray dogs, prompting calls for an end to animal cruelty. Linley Moothien, president of the non-governmental organization (NGO) 4 Tilapat, has expressed serious concerns about a troubling situation that has persisted for several weeks.

“We have reason to believe that dogs are being killed to eliminate their presence in the area,” Moothien stated.

He noted a significant decline in the number of stray dogs, which were previously seen near local shopping centers.

According to his estimates, approximately fifty dogs have vanished in the past three weeks, a scenario he describes as “very worrying.”

During his investigation, Moothien discovered containers filled with food mixed with a suspicious red gelatinous substance.

“We had this substance analyzed by QuantiLAB, and the results confirmed the presence of three potent types of poison typically used to combat rodents,” he explained.

He added that this toxic material raises even more concerns, as it is not readily available to the general public. “Only professionals can obtain such products,” he emphasized.

In response to the troubling situation, formal complaints have been filed with the police to uncover the full extent of the matter.

The NGO has also leveraged social media to draw public attention to the issue.

“We are calling on the public to come together this Saturday, December 7, for a peaceful march through the streets of Moka to denounce these cruel acts,” Moothien announced.

Moothien is hoping that this time, concrete action will be taken by Minister of Agro-Industry Arvin Boolell and Junior Minister Fabrice David.

“I am offering my services free of charge to promote animal welfare. I have the necessary experience in this field,” he asserted.

He expressed hope that his appeals would not fall on deaf ears, as has happened in the past.
