Road Deaths in 2024: Motorcyclists Are the Most Affected
So far this year, 111 individuals have lost their lives in road accidents, according to figures released by the police communication unit. The latest victim was 27-year-old Slyvette Spéville, who tragically passed away on Monday evening in Pointe-aux-Biches. She was riding as a passenger on a scooter when it was struck by a 4×4 vehicle.
Of the 111 fatalities recorded this year, motorcyclists have been the hardest hit, accounting for 52 deaths.
This group is followed by pedestrians, with 17 fatalities. The data also reveals that 15 drivers and 15 passengers in vehicles have died in similar incidents.
Additionally, cyclists and those riding as passengers on motorcycles each recorded six fatalities.
In comparison, 138 people lost their lives on the roads in 2023, with 57 being motorcyclists and 42 pedestrians, underscoring the vulnerability of these road users.
Given these alarming statistics, it remains crucial for all road users to exercise caution and prioritize safety.
