Airport Authorities Seize 15 Kg of Cannabis from British National

In a significant drug bust at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on Sunday, authorities confiscated 15 kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately Rs 18 million from the luggage of a 73-year-old British national. The individual arrived from London and was traveling with a 52-year-old woman.

Upon arrival, the British man had three suitcases but mistakenly left the terminal with one that resembled his original luggage.

Shortly after, officials from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) noticed an abandoned suitcase near the airport.

Collaborating with officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section, they opened the suspicious bag and discovered 27 packages of cannabis totaling 15 kilograms.

Both the British national and his female companion were arrested later at a hotel in the southern part of the island.

Additionally, the taxi driver who transported the couple was questioned by investigators.

Authorities also seized the driver’s vehicle and mobile phone as part of the investigation.
