Port Congestion: Mauritius Ports Authority & Shipping Companies Seek Solutions
In response to recent media reports highlighting the implementation of port congestion surcharges by shipping companies, citing “the current situation in Mauritius,” the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) held a meeting on Thursday, November 28, 2024, with representatives from Cargo Handling Corporation Limited (CHCL) and shipping companies CMA-CGM, MAERSK, and PIL.
The purpose of this meeting was to assess the current situation accurately and to explore sustainable solutions.
According to a statement released by the MPA on Friday, November 29, the discussions involved multiple stakeholders and addressed various key issues surrounding port congestion.
The MPA emphasized its commitment to closely monitor the situation and plans to meet with additional port sector representatives in the coming days to ensure optimal port management, especially during the busy end-of-year period.
