Doubling of Child & Income Allowances for Year-end 2024
In a positive development for social aid recipients in Mauritius, the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has announced that the Contribution Sociale Généralisée (CSG) Child Allowance and CSG Income Allowance will be doubled for the month of December, mirroring a similar initiative from last year. The initial disbursements are expected to take place next week.
This measure, confirmed by the MRA, aiming to provide additional support to families during the festive season, a time when expenses often increase.
The CSG Child Allowance currently amounts to Rs 2,500 per month.
In terms of the CSG Income Allowance, it consists of several categories based on monthly earnings. Individuals with a salary of up to Rs 20,000 will receive Rs 3,000 from the MRA.
Those earning between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 will be granted Rs 2,500, while employees earning between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 will receive Rs 2,000.
Finally, workers with salaries ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 will be eligible for an allocation of Rs 1,500.
The MRA has emphasized that this exceptional increase for December targets not only eligible Mauritian citizens but also foreign nationals who meet the criteria.
However, a senior official from the organization clarified that recipients of the Home Loan Relief Scheme will not qualify for this doubling of benefits.
