Minister Boolell Urges Private Sector Investment in Mauritian Port Development
In a recent press conference held on Thursday morning, November 28, at Mer Rouge, Arvin Boolell, the Minister of Blue Economy and Fisheries, urged the private sector to take a more active role in the development of the Mauritian port.
He emphasized that such investments would not only modernize the port facilities but also enhance the competitiveness of Mauritius on a global scale.
The minister’s remarks came in conjunction with International Fish Day, a time when the significance of the fishing industry and its sustainable management is emphasized.
During his address, Boolell highlighted several critical issues threatening the maritime landscape of Mauritius.
These included concerns related to drug trafficking, illegal fishing practices, the inefficiency of coast guard operations, and the failure to adhere to ecotourism principles.
Boolell expressed his alarm over these challenges, stating that they significantly contribute to the decline of Mauritius, which is currently ranked among the least successful nations in managing these maritime issues.
He called for a concerted effort from the private sector to not only invest in port development but also to collaborate with government efforts to address these pressing challenges effectively.
