Immediate Termination of Forensic Science Laboratory’s Director
In a significant development, Vidhu Madhub-Dassyne has been removed from her position as Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), effective immediately. She received her termination letter on Monday, November 25 evening, marking the end of her tenure at the helm of the institution, which has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding its management.
Madhub-Dassyne had served as director since 2015, following a decade as deputy director.
Her leadership has often been questioned, particularly due to allegations of favoritism and a lack of transparency, with some critics claiming her management style was influenced by the previous government’s administration.
Although she officially retired in February 2023 at the age of 65, she was granted a controversial two-year extension just one day after her retirement, a move that sparked frustration among FSL staff.
Over time, the work environment at the FSL deteriorated, with persistent accusations of mismanagement surfacing from employees.
Many voiced their concerns through formal complaints addressed to former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
However, these grievances were reportedly met with inaction, fostering a climate of discontent and a feeling of impunity among the personnel.
Madhub-Dassyne’s departure has been met with cautious optimism among the staff, who express hope that the FSL can regain its independence and credibility.
They anticipate a return to its role as a leading authority in forensic and scientific analysis, free from previous external influences and questionable practices.
