PM Navin Ramgoolam Supports Fateemah Before Her Departure for India
This morning, November 25, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, accompanied by his wife Veena Ramgoolam, visited Plaisance Airport to lend support to Fateemah Dilmohamed before her departure to India for specialized medical treatment. Family members of Fateemah were also present at the airport, along with Minister of Health Anil Bachoo and Member of Parliament Eshan Juman.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ramgoolam emphasized the critical importance of time in saving Fateemah’s left leg.
He explained that the necessary surgical procedure to reconstruct the main bone in her leg is not available in Mauritius, which makes her transfer to India essential.
“In situations like this, prompt action is vital,” he stated.
Fateemah, a 21-year-old woman, suffered the amputation of her right leg after her feet were crushed by an escalator at the Grand Baie La Croisette shopping center last Saturday, November 23.
Minister Bachoo revealed that the night had been challenging as he worked alongside Ministry officials, MP Eshan Juman, and teams from Air Mauritius and Air India, as well as the High Commission of India in Mauritius to finalize the arrangements for Fateemah’s transfer.
Thanks to these efforts, she was able to board a flight to India at 10 AM today for specialized care in Chennai.
In a press statement made at Plaisance Airport, Minister Bachoo noted that he received instructions from Prime Minister Ramgoolam to expedite the necessary procedures for Fateemah’s swift transfer.
As the situation unfolds, all efforts are concentrated on providing Fateemah with the urgent medical attention she needs.
