New Education Minister Calls for Leadership Change at the PSEA
On November 25th, Mahend Gungapersad, the newly appointed Minister of Education, addressed the media following a meeting with the Federation of Private College Managers at the ministry’s headquarters in Phoenix.
During his remarks, Gungapersad said, “Shiv Luchoomun should step down from his position.”
The minister emphasized the “notable discontent” prevailing in the education sector, which he attributed to the inability of the director of the Private Secondary Education Authority (PSEA) to meet the needs of Mauritian students adequately.
Gungapersad’s call for a change in leadership reflected growing frustrations among educators and stakeholders regarding the current administration’s effectiveness.
In addition, the minister reassured parents, students, and other members of the educational community about the government’s commitment to reforming the existing system of three Credits for the School Certificate—this change has been eagerly anticipated by many.
