Heavy Rainfall Warning in Effect for Mauritius
The Vacoas Weather Station has issued a warning for torrential rains across Mauritius, effective from 11:40 AM on Friday, November 22, until 4:00 AM next morning. This weather alert is linked to a convergence line associated with Tropical Depression Bheki, which continues to impact local weather conditions.
Active cloud formations have led to moderate to heavy showers, predominantly affecting the northern, eastern, and southern regions of the island.
Several weather stations have reported significant rainfall, with more than 100 millimeters recorded in the past 12 hours up until 11 AM. The stations with the highest rainfall amounts include:
- Mon Loisir SE: 141 mm
- Queen Victoria: 118 mm
- Plaisance: 113 mm
- Mon Loisir Rouillard: 75 mm
- Nouvelle-Découverte: 66 mm
The weather station anticipates a brief respite from the heavy rainfall in the afternoon, November 22.
However, additional clouds are expected to influence the weather, resulting in persistent heavy showers at times, along with isolated thunderstorms.
In light of these conditions, the public is advised to take the following precautions:
- Stay indoors and avoid open areas, hiking, and sea outings, and do not seek shelter under trees.
- Steer clear of locations prone to water accumulation.
- Exercise caution while driving due to reduced visibility from heavy rain and fog.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the situation closely and remain alert to further updates from the Vacoas Weather Station.
