As the year draws to a close, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the region are still waiting for clarity on the payment of the so-called 14th month salary for their employees. With just over a month remaining in the year, uncertainty looms over many businesses that are struggling to meet this financial obligation.

Amar Deerpalsing, President of the Federation of SMEs, has expressed concern over the situation.

He highlighted that the incoming government is already aware of the financial challenges faced by these enterprises.

“They have promised that assistance will be provided to SMEs, which will help them manage the payment for the 14th month.

The reality is that most of these small businesses lack the funds to make this payment,” he stated.

Deerpalsing is eager for the formation of the new government and hopes that discussions regarding financial support for SMEs will take place promptly.

He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the 14th month pay needs to be disbursed before the end of 2025.

As SMEs continue to navigate these difficult circumstances, the call for government action grows more pressing.

Without timely assistance, many businesses may struggle to fulfill their obligations to employees, further emphasizing the need for immediate intervention and support.
