On November 14, Rampersad Sooroojebally officially assumed his role as the new Commissioner of Police (CP). In his inaugural message to the officers, CP Sooroojebally emphasized his commitment to enhancing both the efficiency and integrity of the police force. “I am fully aware of the responsibility that rests on my shoulders,” he stated, stressing that improving police services requires a collective effort from all members of the force.

Sooroojebally expressed his honor and pride in taking on this leadership position, having observed the evolution of the police over the years from both an external perspective and with impartiality.

He highlighted the necessity of collaboration among all police officers in order to create a safer environment in Mauritius for living, working, and thriving.

This vision for modernization is accompanied by a determination to further professionalize the police by leveraging past experiences and an outside perspective on police management.

The CP commended the exemplary efforts of police officers during the recent legislative elections, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.

Furthermore, Rampersad Sooroojebally’s message underscored the vital relationship between the police and the community.

To this end, several initiatives have already been implemented, including the restructuring of certain units within the force.

He urged officers to maintain a positive attitude towards these changes, clarifying that all modifications aim to enhance the organization’s effectiveness and meet the legitimate security expectations of the public.

He reminded officers that the success of the police is rooted in discipline and adherence to ethical standards, emphasizing that the community’s respect for the police is a direct reflection of the commitment and integrity of its members.

“Leadership is not confined to a rank,” he stated, asserting that every police officer plays a crucial role in transforming the organization.

He encouraged all personnel to set a good example, uphold discipline and ethics, and contribute to the elevation of the police force.

“Great leadership at the top doesn’t amount to much if you don’t have exceptional leadership at the unit level.

That’s where great things can happen,” he concluded, inspiring a renewed commitment to excellence among the ranks of the police.
