Dinay Reetoo Resigns from the Financial Intelligence Unit
Dinay Reetoo, the Assistant Parliamentary Counsel, officially resigned on Monday, November 18, from his position as Chairman of the Board of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). Reetoo was appointed to this role in November 2021 by then-Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, and he held the 14th position within the Solicitor General’s Office.
His appointment was part of a series of leadership placements in key institutions made by the previous government during that period.
As the head of the FIU, Reetoo was responsible for overseeing critical operations in combating money laundering and financing of terrorism.
In addition to his role at the FIU, he also holds several other positions, including serving as a member of the legal committee for the Information and Communication Technologies Authority and the Independent Broadcasting Authority.
Reetoo has been involved in numerous significant state matters, including sensitive constitutional cases.
Notably, he represented the government in a case against former Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Me Rashid Ahmine.
Furthermore, Dharmanand Virahsawmy and Ammanah Saya Ragavoodoo have also submitted their resignations from the FIU board. Ragavoodoo, a lawyer with close ties to the former government, had been a board member since 2018 and was reappointed in 2022.
She previously served on the Electoral Supervisory Commission and the Electoral Boundary Commission since 2018.
Currently, the only remaining executive member at the FIU is Chief Executive Officer Carine Charlette Katinic.
