MT Former CEO Files Complaint Over Alleged Wiretapping Devices Purchase
Sherry Singh, the former Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom (MT), has lodged a formal complaint with the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) regarding the alleged acquisition of wiretapping devices by two MT executives. Singh’s complaint, submitted on November 13, claiming that these individuals purchased the devices—known as the Prestel Apparatus—during a trip to India between August and September 2022.
In his statement to the investigators, Singh detailed that the two individuals involved include a senior executive from MT and a technician.
He alleged that these devices were subsequently installed at the Telecom Tower in Port-Louis and were reportedly connected to the Office of the Prime Minister.
Singh is calling for a thorough investigation into this matter by law enforcement authorities.
Following his complaint, the case has been assigned to a specialized unit within the CCID, which will collaborate with the Cyber Crime Unit to delve deeper into the allegations.
Defi Media sources indicated that several senior officials from MT are expected to be summoned to provide explanations regarding this issue at the Central Police Station, particularly those responsible for the finance department.
The inquiry is aiming to trace the expenses incurred during the trip to India by the two individuals involved in the purchase of the devices.
