Tragic Loss for Mahend Gungapersad Shortly After Political Victory
Mahend Gungapersad, who recently secured the top position on the ballot for constituency No. 6, Grand-Baie-Poudre-d’Or, has suffered a profound personal loss with the passing of his father, Kalachand Gungapersad, who was 84 years old. The elder Gungapersad died on Thursday morning, November 14, just two days after witnessing his son’s triumph in the elections.
Before casting his vote, Mahend shared a heartfelt sentiment, stating, “I am fulfilling my civic duty after receiving the blessings of my father and mother.”
He was accompanied to the polling station by his father, who required a wheelchair to navigate due to health issues.
In a previous conversation, Mahend emphasized the importance of having his parents present at this significant moment in his life.
“Since my father is ill and uses a wheelchair, we have to prepare him, but it’s essential for him to be by my side when I vote,” he expressed.
The elder Gungapersad was able to see his son’s election to government office before his passing, a comforting thought for Mahend during this difficult time.
“He left us after seeing that I will now serve in the government,” he remarked, clearly moved by the bittersweet nature of his father’s departure.
The funeral for Kalachand Gungapersad is scheduled for this afternoon at 3 PM in Goodlands.
Heartfelt condolences to Mahend Gungapersad and his grieving family during this tragic time.
