Allegations of Rigged Elections Sparks Nationwide Unrest
Last night, November 9, citizens across Mauritius took to the streets to express their concerns over potential electoral fraud as the fear of rigged elections loomed large. Gatherings were reported in various locations, including Chemin Grenier, Pailles, Highlands, Vacoas, Curepipe, Mahébourg, and Pamplemousses, with many Mauritians remaining vigilant and actively voicing their indignation on social media.
As the evening unfolded, reports emerged of broken padlocks, suspicious smoke coming from polling stations, and partially open doors at various voting sites.
In addition, supporters were seen with what appeared to be ballots, raising further alarm among the public.
Some candidates were reported to be present in schools during the unrest, which intensified tensions in the atmosphere.
It was challenging to confirm these allegations due to the lack of visible presence from authorities on the ground.
