Former DPP: “A Well-Organized Clique Has Taken Mauritius Hostage”
In a striking appearance on the November 7 episode of the television show “Soirée de campagne” on TéléPlus, former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Satyajit Boolell did not hold back his criticism of the current political situation in Mauritius. During the discussion, hosted by Jean-Luc Émile, Boolell asserted that “a well-organized clique has taken Mauritius hostage.”
His comments came in response to the controversial “Moustass Leaks,” which allegedly uncovered a conspiracy involving Kobita Jugnauth, the wife of the Prime Minister, and former advisor Ken Arian.
Boolell claimed that “tentacles” of this group had infiltrated all institutions in the country.
“Neither the Supreme Court nor the judiciary is safe,” he remarked, indicating his concern over the reach and influence of this clique.
According to Boolell, the leaked conversations indicate a concerted effort to undermine his career and personal life.
“Every time this action against me has been initiated, it begins with questions in Parliament, through leaks to the press, and forms of fabricated narrative,” he explained, emphasizing that this campaign aimed to impede him from performing his constitutional duties.
“All of this is happening because I am doing my job,” he added.
Boolell did not shy away from naming certain ministers and MPs from the government, accusing them of attacking him in the media to secure favor and rewards.
“They also begin their attacks against you in the press at the same time to gain their rewards,” he said, noting that the situation reflects “an unprecedented conspiracy orchestrated by a small, well-organized clique.”
Additionally, he criticized some members of the legal profession, suggesting they are complicit in reinforcing a system that contributes to the ongoing issues.
“What are they doing? They are supporting a system they have put in place,” he stated.
Boolell further suggested that the leaked conversations provide insight into why the Police Commissioner sought to bring the DPP before the Supreme Court.
He maintained that “the Supreme Court is the only bulwark against this clique” and expressed hope that the DPP would thwart any attempts to obstruct police investigations.
“The goal was to cripple the DPP’s office to prevent it from working transparently and legally.
The Police Commissioner is part of this scheme, and I hope the Supreme Court is observing and listening to prevent this,” he declared.
In a comment regarding the recent arrests of several suspects linked to the investigation of the “Moustass Leaks,” Boolell expressed relief that those arrested had “fortunately been able to escape the ordeal of their arrest.”
He pointed out that this situation breeds a presumption of guilt in the current system, stating, “In this system, one is guilty until proven innocent.”
Finally, Boolell touched on the impending elections, asserting that without them, “they would have taken over the government house.”
