ACIM Calls on Moroil Regarding Price Increase
The Association of Consumers of Mauritius (ACIM) has reached out to the Ministry of Commerce to request an investigation into the rising prices of cooking oils distributed by Moroil. Jayen Chellum, a representative of ACIM, emphasized that the reasons for this price hike remain unclear and has called for a meeting with the company’s representatives.
In a letter addressed to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, the ACIM highlighted that other brands of cooking oil in the market have not increased their prices, underscoring the necessity for an investigation into Moroil’s price adjustments.
Chellum expressed concern that this situation could trigger a chain reaction of price increases, particularly affecting the cost of dholl puris and other fried items.
Furthermore, the ACIM noted that Moroil has not issued any statements to explain the rationale behind the price increase, which adds to the confusion among consumers.
The association, advocating for regulated prices for cooking oil, has urged the ministry to request that Moroil rescind this price hike.
Additionally, the ACIM has initiated communication with Moroil’s management, seeking an urgent meeting to obtain explanations regarding the current situation.
