Sgt. Dev Bhudhoo Detained by Central Criminal Investigation Department
Sgt. Dev Bhudhoo was detained on Thursday, November 7, 2024, by the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) following a post he made on his Facebook account. The police officer recently attracted media attention after filing a complaint against the Police Commissioner, alleging that he was subjected to a double transfer.
Residing in Camp-Thorel, Bhudhoo has dedicated 32 years to the police force.
He was first transferred to a unit of the Special Mobile Force (SMF) responsible for monitoring Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSRIA) in Plaisance, Plaine-Magnien, a location approximately 44.7 kilometers away, or nearly an hour’s drive.
According to Bhudhoo, his initial transfer was prompted merely by his act of greeting a candidate from the Alliance of Change, Dhaneshwar Damry, during a canvassing exercise in Constituency No. 8.
He recounted, “I opened my door, greeted him, and spoke with him for not even a minute. If someone comes to your door, you must receive them.”
Shortly thereafter, he received a phone call from a colleague informing him of his transfer:
“Twenty minutes later, I received a phone call from a colleague informing me that I had been transferred to the Special Mobile Force (SMF),” Bhudhoo had stated in an interview with the Défi Quotidien on October 26, 2024.
He accepted this transfer and joined the ranks of the SMF in Vacoas.
However, Bhudhoo asserts that on Wednesday, October 23, another transfer order was issued against him, this time assigning him to the SMF unit at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport.
He is contesting this latest assignment.
